After winning the Professional Prize at the Prix de Lausanne, Nakamura moved to Europe to dance with the Monte-Carlo Ballet Company. Later she joined the Nederlands Dans Theater led by Jiri Kylian, where she collaborated with some of the world's leading choreographers in their creation processes. After retiring from the company, she has worked as a coach for pieces by Jiri Kylian and has taught at ballet companies and schools around the world, including the Paris Opera Ballet. Since 2007, she has been based in Japan, where as a choreographer, she has provided works for Noism, K Ballet Company, and The National Ballet of Japan, among many others. Nakamura has received numerous awards, including the New Talent Award from the Dance Critics Society of Japan, the Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts, the Chieko Hattori Award, and the Medal with Purple Ribbon.
